Avoiding a DUI…or Worse
As responsible parents, knowingly getting behind the wheel while inebriated should be unthinkable. Even if we weren’t as good people as we are, the reality of police monitoring our highways equipped with a portable breathalyzer in every unit would be enough to scare us away from driving while even the slightest bit tipsy. From what I understand, getting nabbed on just a first offense charge of driving under the influence can easily end up costing thousands upon thousands of dollars, not counting time spent in court, restrictions on driving, taking classes, etc. Oh, and then there’s the scary night in the drunk tank.
But here’s the really disturbing fact. Especially if you’re only a very occasional drinker, it’s not always so easy to know exactly what your safe limit is. Especially if you are a rather small woman, it’s not always easy to say at what point that wine with dinner, and the strawberry daiquiri you shared with a girlfriend beforehand, and maybe the little coffee drink after dinner you only half finished, might have tipped your blood alcohol too close for comfort, or safety, with the legal limit. Legality aside, it’s simply wrong to get behind the wheel when you are even slightly adversely effected.
Still, sometimes it’s not always easy to judge if you’re still feeling the effects or not. That’s why I love the fact that, almost just like the police, people can now carry a portable breathalyzer with them. It’s kind of a fun thing to bring to any place people are imbibing. It’s an interesting party game and, for people who haven’t done what they really should and brought a designated driver along, it’s a pretty good way to prevent anyone from getting behind the wheel when they shouldn’t and maybe heading off a terrible tragedy.

I don’t drink and i don’t want to test my limits
because I am afraid of what will happen to me if I drink beyond my limit…
